Just the two picks inside the four rounds for Essendon, but no fear Bombers fans, along with a potential Shaun McKernan rookie upgrade, the Bombers are likely to take one or two more selections. All could contribute during the 2019 season if the coaching staff are so inclined, so it is a readymade draft haul for the Dogs. Port young gun Connor Rozee is afforded too much space and makes the Dees pay with a…, Port Adelaide forward Connor Rozee has had successful surgery to correct an issue…, Port Adelaide forward Connor Rozee will undergo a surgical procedure to correct an…, Port Adelaide youngster has been cleared to play in tomorrow's practice match after…, Despite a shorter than usual break between seasons, Connor Rozee is feeling fit and…. Set to be a bargain pick, the 22-year old could be one of the better defensive cash cows. The Dogs have also recruited a trio of Neagle’s- Jydon, Matthew, and Jaxon– from Wodonga and will be looking to make the most of the opportunity at the Ponderosa. 54 – St Kilda – Nick Hind (Essendon VFL) Although just one year into his career, Connor Rozee is destined for stardom and slots in on the wing for North Adelaide. 63 – Hawthorn – Matthew Walker (Murray Bushrangers/Allies) 2018 leading goal kicker John Butcher and former Docker Jack Hannath have also both moved onto new opportunities outside of the game. Fremantle: 14, 31, 43, 65, 81, 99, 117 34 – GWS GIANTS – Kieren Briggs (GWS GIANTS Academy/NSW-ACT) Brisbane: Ely Smith, Thomas Berry, Tom Joyce, Connor McFadyen, Noah Answerth Another midfield talent that could be considered is Sandringham’s Bailey Smith, whose contested ball and tackle numbers are a class above. Sam Sturt While they will definitely be fine matching Quaynor, the placement of the Quaynor bid could determine Kelly’s future. #55 Tom McKenzie Premiership Crow and AFL Hall of Famer Ben Hart is one of the genuine stars of this Roosters side. Richmond will look to target bigger bodies at the coalface, so expect a couple of these types of names to land at the Tigers. Granted he was an early draft pick, it’s not a huge stretch to suggest he will be one of the best players in the league at some point in his career. In the trial games, we have also seen some exciting play from small forwards Keanu Miller and Frankie Szekely and winger Mason Neagle. The classy outside midfielder is similar to Rozee in many ways, but is a touch smaller and is more effective at ground level. With the picks outside the first round being later in the draft, the Power have opted for homegrown talent with a potential to improve. #10 Jordan Clark They could target someone like a Nick Hind who has speed to burn and already knows the club well having played for the Bombers’ VFL side. Central were one of the club’s to be hit most by AFL Draft, with Jackson Hately (GWS), Jez McLennan (Gold Coast), Aaron Nietschke (Melbourne) and Fort (Geelong) all recruited. #23 Kieren Briggs IT is no secret that ready-made recruits are in vogue, favoured increasingly over each draft given the potential for them to slot straight into an AFL 22. After losing dual premiership coach Marty Mattner as an assistant coach to the Adelaide Crows, the new Sturt era will be under the tutelage of former North Melbourne and Central District premiership player Nathan Grima. A 20 per cent discount sees Collingwood needing to cover 890 points. Hawthorn: 53, 90, 108, 126 With that behind him, expect Georgiades to be an excitement machine inside 50. Similar to Bergman, Williams is more than capable of a high-flying grab but can also get it done at ground level. Snelling- a hard luck story to be delisted by Port- will be keen to build on his 2018 best-and-fairest SANFL Port season and make a big impact back at his original club. Fremantle fans seem divided on whether or not to select Ian Hill with the first rounder, but do not let an injury-interrupted season put you off, he is a genuine star. Lonergan brings AFL and SANFL playing and Tasmanian coaching experience to the group and will be looking to have a clean slate after the difficult end to 2018 and the 19th man saga. Like Georgiades, Burgoyne has not got on the park this year with hamstring issues placing a toll. Albeit difficult to break into a star-studded Geelong midfield, Parfitt has shown glimpses of his talent in 54 games. 58 – Richmond – Fraser Turner (Clarence/Tasmania) 69 – North Melbourne – Joel Crocker (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro), 70 – Carlton – Ben Silvagni (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro) Sydney: Nick Blakey, James Rowbottom, Justin McInerney, Zac Foot He seemed best suited as a forward, but loves the contested brand of football in the middle, with a knack for accumulating the footy and winning a truckload of clearances. Norwood look to again be in the mix for finals after another solid offseason adding ex Port (and Glenelg) Dom Barry and former South Adelaide player Cody Szust to an already strong list. North Melbourne: Rhyan Mansell, Matthew McGuinness, Tarryn Thomas Jack Lukosius The 2018 AFL National Draft kicks off from 7pm tomorrow night, Thursday, November 22. 48:30 – Is Josh Dunkley the first to go out of the Dogs’ midfield when Adam Treloar is back? Current GWS Giants captain Phil Davis anchors the backline of the Roosters “best side of the AFL era”. Melbourne: 23, 28, 54, 62, 91, 109, 127 8 – North Melbourne – Tarryn Thomas (North Launceston/Tasmania) #8 Bailey Smith With Carlton set to take Sam Walsh with the first selection of the draft, Gold Coast are afforded the opportunity to package a couple of elite talents with the following two picks. #14 Riley Collier-Dawkins Just comparing two players. 89 Connor Rozee (Port) $422,100 FWD (2 games) 87 Sam Docherty (Carl) $436,100 DEF (2 games) *Marsh Series averages. Taking over the captaincy and marquee spot is former Fremantle utility Cameron Sutcliffe who surprisingly knocked back his original SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens. #56 Damon Greaves Either way it will not stop them matching the pair who sure up the club’s defence. Then they targeted big bodies, with Ely Smith and Tom Berry – brother of Jarrod – while also matching the bid on Academy prospect, Connor McFadyen. Walsh uses the ball well and showed he can hit the scoreboard too, and may well be the most obvious rookie choice in fantasy history given he is arguably the most decorated junior of the past decade. Good in the air and lethal around goal, Mosquito will be hard to miss once he is out there, and the Bombers certainly liked the look of him given he was selected with their first pick. With the Magpies’ Reserves side disbanded for 2019, all SANFL contracted players that don’t feature in the league side will play for their community clubs when not required. A vital cog in the Tigers recent successes, Edwards was named an All-Australian in 2018 and fits in on the wing of the Roosters side. A serviceable, nuggety small forward or rotating midfielder, Wright kicked 136 goals in 94 games with the Crows and 65 with the Blues. Essendon: Matthew Neagle* The names above are all eligible to be taken by the club their father played for, however in the case of Matthew Neagle (Essendon) and Kyle Dunkley (Sydney), to quote the AFL rules, if the pair “is not selected at a National Draft, the Club with whom he is eligible as a Father/Son Player may include him on its Rookie List prior to the Rookie Draft.” However any AFL club may select them in the National Draft without the father’s club being able to match. At Reserves and Under 18 level there is plenty of talent keen to impress with SA U18 members Cooper Hornsell and Brady Searle developing nicely. Kai Pudney dominated in U18’s level last season and will look to take the next step in the seniors, as will Martin Frederick – who impressed at the U18 South Australia championship win – and will be looking to further his development with senior football. Ned McHenry is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Adelaide Crows in the Australian Football League (AFL). A bit of a straight forward draft for Collingwood with Isaac Quaynor and Will Kelly both heading to the club. With clean hands and a knack for winning games off his own boot, Thomas was a no-brainer for the Roos to match within the top 10 of the draft after an exceptional year which saw him lead Tasmania to an Academy Series victory and the Allies to a win over Vic Country. Nonetheless, O’Halloran could be the pick of the bunch with his readymade frame, mix of speed and athleticism, and ability to play forward. Magarey medalist Mitch Grigg again looks like he will be able to control games from the middle alongside Matthew Panos. Adelaide went with a distinct South Australian feel to it, taking the Croweaters’ three best midfielders from the National Under 18 Championships in Connor Rozee… This balanced Roosters side has a number of well-established modern-day players mixing with a strong tier of up-and-coming future stars, supplemented by a handful of the greats of yesteryear. Rozee is also able to play back or forward, with strong hands given him an ability to clunk grabs in the air, or win ground balls. Willsmore will provide more depth in West’s engine room, as West rounded out their acquisitions with Werribee swingman Jade Cleeland and ex-Norwood defender Pat Levicki. 71 – Gold Coast – Caleb Graham (Gold Coast Academy/Queensland) Geelong: Blake Schlensog #63 Oscar Brownless. #49 Josh Kemp GWS GIANTS: Kieren Briggs, Jeromy Lucas, James Peatling, Guy Richardson St Kilda: Max King, Jack Bytel, Mathew Parker, Nick Hind, Robert Young The Magpies get the flat 197 points from the second round bid, meaning they have to come up with 559 points. While he still has room to grow, Rozee may well hone his craft in the big-time up forward, where he is able to find the goals well, cover ground quickly, and mark strongly overhead. #61 Tyron Smallwood #54 Will Golds. Chayce Jones Former-Power star Josh Francou has been named as a follower. Thomas Berry (born 1 May 2000) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Brisbane Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He moves incredibly well and has a terrific kick that he uses to penetrate laterally through opposition defences. #35 Connor McFadyen Darren Jarman joins his brother in the Roosters side. The Saints need the skillset that Rozee offers, but given King could well have challenged for pick one had he not injured his knee, it is more than fair to say he is best available at the selection. One of the best accumulators of the football, Woodcock is small in stature but just keeps powering on. Chris Ladhams and Darel Hart also made the final cut. The Magpies had no problems matching the bids, though there is a chance they go into deficit for 2019. They work out the offer of picks it will take to match and the club then can assess its options if they match or let the player go to the club that bidded. More built for senior football, just tidying up some areas of his game will be required at AFL level. Adelaide: 8, 13, 16, 21, 73, 83, 101, 119 Geelong: 12, 50, 51, 70, 87, 105, 123 Unfortunately injury got in the way of his top-age season, and while he still showed he could be a match-winner – such as in his last match against Eastern Ranges or against Northern Knights earlier in the season – the stress fractures effectively ended his year and impacted his form. He hits the scoreboard and covers the field with ease, and is just one of those smooth movers that has a touch of grace with ball-in-hand. GWS GIANTS: 9, 11, 19, 25, 52, 89, 107, 125 Western Bulldogs: 7, 27, 32, 45, 63, 75, 82, 100, 118. Jones has hit the ground running in pre-season, with the hard-working midfielder keen to break into Adelaide’s Round 1 calculations. #29 Xavier O’Halloran 60 – Essendon – Noah Gown (Gippsland Power/Vic Country) North Melbourne: 42, 47, 48, 49, 55, 58, 86, 104, 122 #73 Zane Barzen. 49 – North Melbourne – Bailey Scott (Gold Coast Suns Academy/Queensland) West Coast: Xavier O’Neill, Luke Foley, Bailey Williams, Jarrod Cameron Averaging 25 disposals per VFL game in 2018, Bewley could well be one to provide aid to the relatively young Freo midfield over time, should he not break in straight away. Rozee would be a sure bet at either pick three or six, possessing the leadership qualities Gold Coast desperately needs on top of a good balance of inside and outside traits. #33 Jacob Koschitzke PORT Adelaide certainly finished the AFL Draft with a South Australian feel even if they took just the one local with their first three picks. Melbourne: Toby Bedford #45 Tom Lewis He has showed great athletic traits and oozes upside when he has played in previous years, though is still quite raw. The brother of Collingwood’s Brodie, Riley Grundy is a key position defender who is still developing his game. A Crows club legend, Hart played 311 games in the tri-colours, winning two best and fairest awards and being named an All-Australian on four occasions. Port Adelaide was not too concerned when it came to picking up specific needs heading into the draft, and while there was a lot of fan support to pick up a key position player or two, the Power went with the best available as well as highest upside with the first three selections. Overall Port Adelaide opted for upside, excitement and forward line power, which it got in spades, as well as a couple of father-sons and a reliable defender to tick off a good draft period. The first pick in the second round will be taken from 12.05pm, with the rookie draft to follow that evening. Riley Grundy (Port Adelaide). They can choose to match bids during the National Draft, select them with their later selections if they like, pre-list them prior to the Rookie Draft, or choose not to take them. SO tomorrow is the 2018 AFL National Draft and you need a quick guide to know the basics. If Adelaide then bid on Kelly with pick 25 (after Blakey, Thomas, Quaynor and Bailey Scott bids), it is equivalent of 756 points. However, some clubs are exempt from future pick trading, which limits options (explained below). Trent Burgoyne (Woodville-West Torrens/South Australia) | 177cm | 67kg | Outside Midfielder Melbourne has one of the more well-rounded teams and we targeted best available, with a focus on speed and outside run. Jack Graham has played 39 games with Richmond and was a key contributor to the Tigers 2017 premiership victory. Overager, Tobin Cox had a lot of bad luck with injury in his top-age year, but to his credit he fought back and produced a good season which included 22 goals in 14 games for Glenelg. #28 Rhylee West They add to their talent inside 50 and strength through the midfield. Richmond: 17, 37, 64, 68, 74, 92, 110, 128 Angus Hanrahan late is a developing forward who can play midfield and add another dimension inside 50. Both were dangerous talls in their prime, kicking 179 and 239 goals respectively. The Gippsland Power teammates reunite at the Hawks and immediately add to the forward half of the ground with Jarryd Roughead coming to the twilight of his career, while Mosquito adds that forward pressure. Fremantle: Sam Sturt, Luke Valente, Lachlan Schulz, Brett Bewley While he may not be the obvious choice out of Gold Coast’s draft haul which included four first-rounders, Sam Collins looks to be a sure choice for fantasy defences. 65 – Geelong – Darcy Fort (Central District/South Australia) Poised to take over from where Lance Franklin leaves off, Blakey has the key tools of all prodigious key forwards to go with the athleticism of a midfielder. 22. Ely Smith* Along with his three premierships and a best and fairest, Jarman was also a three-time All-Australian. #68 Dillon O’Reilly. Tom McKenzie or Will Golds are others who might come into consideration here, with the Saints likely to pick up two midfielders they can put on wings in the future. Norwood had four of their talented youngsters drafted at the end of 2018 in Luke Valente, Jacob Kennerley, Ben Jarvis, and Kade Chandler, but their core group is experienced and tough and Coach Jarrod Cotton will be looking to go further than 2018. South has some quality young talent emerging with big men Damon Freitag and Daniel Sladojevic likely to get an opportunity at the highest level. #15 Jackson Hately With that in mind, and how important the right rookie choices will be for your fantasy sides, here are the draftees from each club to keep an eye on throughout the year who look most likely to crack into their respective starting lineups. Western Bulldogs: Buku Khamis. The Glenelg leaders of Max Proud and Chris Curran will be looking to guide this team to finals and break a long drought for the Tigers. Data from footywire. *Known, can still change between now and tomorrow night. Others to consider: Sam Sturt, Luke Valente, Lachlan Schultz. Sam Walsh. Jackson Hately Rozee suffered a quad contusion against the Tigers but is expected to be available, as is Fantasia, who rolled an ankle. 9 – Adelaide – Chayce Jones (Launceston/Tasmania) Carlton: Ben Silvagni Just the three early picks for Port Adelaide, selecting Ben King with pick five after brother Max was gone, while Zak Butters and Xavier Duursma add versatility and clean skills. 77 – Collingwood – Atu Bosenavulagi (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro) With key forward stocks taken care of early on, Gold Coast could look to sure up their back half with two selections in the 20’s. Able to play on each line, Jones has the versatility to find a place anywhere in the line-up – skyrocketing his chances of early selection. 14 – GWS GIANTS – Jackson Hately (Central District/South Australia) Expect Jones to be a consistent figure once picked, with a good ability to accumulate and use the ball effectively. However, North will still be a real threat in 2019. Hamish, Connor and Rozee spin a few yarns in the Maggies rooms. 6 – Gold Coast – Ben King (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro) Select up to four players at a time to add to the comparison. 40 – Brisbane – Tom Joyce (East Fremantle/Western Australia) Oakleigh’s 2018 captain prospered in his over-age year, bouncing back from an injury-tarnished 2017 to bolt into Brisbane’s draft plans. It has been an interesting off season for the Panthers with some great talent snapped up with losing players Nathan Krueger to Geelong, Keegan Brooksby back into the AFL system at West coast as well as youngsters Tom Sparrow to Melbourne and Jake Tarca to Geelong. Connor Rozee Supercoach stats. Port Adelaide’s ability to not overlook top-age years was evident again by selecting Dylan Williams, who many were talking up as a top five prospect 12 months ago following a sensational bottom-age year and dominant finals series for the Oakleigh Chargers. Like Quote Reply. He needs to continue to build his endurance, and did miss the second half of the season after shoulder surgery, but is an exciting prospect with high scope that the Power can develop over the next few years. The Geelong Falcons product is a perfectly balanced midfielder – one who accumulates well on the outside with his run, and can prize clearances all day for his side. Others to consider: Jack Ross, Fraser Turner, Jake Aarts. 43 – Richmond – Jack Ross (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro), 44 – Sydney – Justin McInerney (Northern Knights/Vic Metro) 2018 SA U18 team member Finn Betterman has impressed also over the pre-season and will be making his debut in Round 1 as well. Connor Rozee Votes: 73 60.3% Total voters 121; Remove this Banner Ad. He has transformed into a small forward who can still find the football, and apply scoreboard pressure. 16 – Adelaide – Ned McHenry (Geelong Falcons/Vic Country) Next. They pick up draft bolter, Sam Sturt with their first selection, as well as overager, Luke Foley who remains in his home state. Liam Stocker has long been linked to Punt Road, while Jack Bytel seems a no brainer at pick 42. Carlton was tricky to pick for late, after clearly selecting Sam Walsh with the first pick. #1 Sam Walsh Both know how to use the ball exceptionally well and have plenty of upside for the future. West Adelaide will hope 2019 can be the season the Bloods can rise back up into finals contention, with coach Gavin Colville into his second term. #5 Ben King Answerth could prove a handy pick as he is already named as a dual-position player, with his leadership and work ethic traits that should have him in the good graces of coach, Chris Fagan. While he might be a touch short to play inside at AFL level, he has developed that role inside 50 which could be suited for him. 18 – Port Adelaide – Xavier Duursma (Gippsland Power/Vic Country) Much like when clubs go to select a player, the AFL club calls out the name of the player they wish to select, which prompts the AFL to turn to the club attached to the father-son or academy player, and ask if they wish to match. 67 – St Kilda – Robert Young (North Adelaide/South Australia) His value and upside may well translate into fantasy terms given his dual-position status, but expect the Gippsland product to feature most prominently up forward for the Bombers if anything. 73 – Port Adelaide – Riley Grundy (Sturt/South Australia) #2 Jack Lukosius #65 Mitch Podhajski Northern Academies and Next Generation Academies are different to the father-son rules in the sense that clubs nominate all the players they are considering listing either on their senior or rookie lists. Jake Pasini (Swan Districts/Western Australia) | 192cm | 81kg | Tall Defender Former Crow Troy Menzel headlines the new recruits returning after five years in the AFL with Carlton, Adelaide and a dominant premiership stint in the SAAFL with Tea Tree Gully in 2018. #51 Tom Sparrow. One of the more straight-forward choices at number one in recent years came in the form of Sam Walsh for the Blues. St Kilda fans have been keen to secure midfielders, and while it still looks like Max King will be the first selection, they cannot be unhappy with a genuine franchise key forward who as an added bonus, supports the Saints. Despite the Demons struggles and a series of injury set-backs, Jamar was regarded as one of the league’s best ruckman and was named an All-Australian in 2010. All three are players who will need to add strength to their frames, but can play across multiple positions. #71 Matt McGannon. 62 – Richmond – Luke English (Perth/Western Australia) Includes historical and current season data. Hawthorn: Irving Mosquito Bringing in Malcom Karpany from West Coast will be a handy addition as well as South favourite Emmanuel Irra returning from Port Adelaide, but it is the class of ball magnet Nick Liddle and Joel Cross which always makes South hard to beat. North Melbourne: Joel Crocker, Bailey Scott Join Facebook to connect with Connor Rozee and others you may know. 38. Depending on how long the National Draft takes, the Rookie Draft could begin anytime between 5pm-7pm. Impressive WA defender Jordan Clark was his state’s best during the National Championships, propelling him into first round contention. 33 – Melbourne – James Jordon (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro) Given the way his brother has shot up into the league’s elite, Port will hope Riley can do the same in time, but for now he is still developing. 2018 Collingwood VFL best and fairest Marty Hore may prove to be the best of the Victorian state league recruits – despite being the third picked. 47 – St Kilda – Matthew Parker (South Fremantle/Western Australia) #20 Liam Stocker Gold Coast always had a strong hand coming into the draft, and much like we expect in the real thing, selected Jack Lukosius, Izak Rankine and Jye Caldwell with their first three selections. NORTH Adelaide Roosters have some elite players in their All-Star team of the AFL Draft era led by captain Wayne Carey who was the clear standout during the All-Star voting. 5 – Port Adelaide – Connor Rozee (North Adelaide/South Australia) Out of the Crows SANFL contracted players, Jordon Boyle from Salisbury North impressed the most last season, but Michael McMahon and 2018 Dean Bailey award winner Corey Davey should be their best contributors. Both are top talents who will be great inclusions to a midfield that could do with a dose of outside speed and versatility. Having moved to Victoria prior to being drafted, Melbourne midfielder Jack Viney was excluded from consideration. Having taken three versatile midfielders with their first picks in the draft, GWS may face some selection headaches early on given the depth and talent they have acquired. With the later selections it is a bit of a gamble, but St Kilda could opt for Riley Bowman if they choose to top-up through the National Draft, or they look to the Rookie Draft for a mature-ager. Connor Rozee AFL Fantasy stats. 22 – GWS GIANTS – Xavier O’Halloran (Western Jets/Vic Metro), 23 – Gold Coast – Jez McLennan (Central District/South Australia), 24 – GWS – Ian Hill (Perth/Western Australia) Tarryn Thomas At pick four, St Kilda are ultimately choosing between Sandringham key forward, Max King, and North Adelaide skilful midfielder, Connor Rozee. Clark’s knack for kicking the ball more often than not also bodes well for fantasy points, given his efficiency and rebound prowess. No doubt there are more memorable moments to come. Sydney made four rather savvy selections in the draft, taking Academy prospect, Nick Blakey after matching a bid inside the top 10, then selecting three very different players with the three selections remaining in the 40s. Bailey Smith WE are now just three days away from the first pick being called in the 2018 AFL National Draft, and at AFL Draft Central, we have put our heads together and put forward our Phantom Draft, based on how some of the picks can fall. #50 Charlie Sprague Both are players who with the right development could certainly be great value players at these selections. #22 Ned McHenry Tim Auckland– 2018 Adelaide Crows SANFL contracted player- impressed enough to earn himself a contract at the Dogs and will be the one envisaged to replace the outgoing Darcy Fort. 41 – St Kilda – Jack Bytel (Calder Cannons/Vic Metro) He could team up with Paddy McCartin in attack with the pair being different types of marking forwards, while Rozee could play from round one on the wing or a flank. Others to consider: Bailey Smith, Ben Cavarra. He kicked 727 goals in 272 games and collected 127 Brownlow votes.
